Twentynine Palms (also known as 29 Palms ) is a town in San Bernardino County, California, United States. It was previously called Twenty-Nine Palms .

Twentynine Palms was named for a palm tree that was discovered there in 1852 by Colonel Henry Washington while observing the San Bernardino baseline. The post office was established in 1927.
Nearby was a small Indian reservation belonging to the Twenty-Nine Palms Band of Mission Indians.
The Joshua Tree National Park, located just south of Twentynine Palms, was designated a national monument in 1936, and became a national park in 1994. The adjacent Twentynine Palms Air Force Marine Corps Center was established in 1952.

The population as of July 1, 2013 is estimated at 25,768.

In the 2010 census, there were 25,048 people, 8,095 households, and 5,847 families living in the city. Population density was 423.5 people per square mile (163.5/km ò). There are 9,431 housing units with an average density of 159.5 per square mile (61.6/km²), of which 2,742 (33.9%) are occupied owners, and 5,353 (66.1%) are occupied by tenants. Homeowner vacancy rate is 3.6%; the vacancy rate of rent is 9.2%. 6,876 people (27.5% of the population) live in housing units occupied by owners and 14,825 people (59.2%) live in rental housing units. City's racial makeup is 71.6%, White (60.8% non-Hispanic), 8.2% African American, 1.3% Native American, 3.9% Asian, 1.4% Pacific Island, 6, 7% of other races, and 6.9% of two or more races. Hispanic or Latino from any race is 20.8% of the population.
The Census reported that 21,701 people (86.6% of the population) lived in households, and 3,347 (13.4%) lived in unembienced groups.
There are 8,095 households where 43.3% have children under the age of 18 living in them, 54.5% are married couples, 12.9% have non-husbands female households, 4.9% have male household without wife present. There are 5.0% partnerships of the unmarried type, and 1.6% of couples or same-sex married couples. 21.1% of households were made up of individuals and 5.6% had a single person living alone 65 or older. The average household size was 2.68 and the average family size was 3.10.
In the city, the population is spread by 25.6% under the age of 18, 30.0% aged 18 to 24, 25.5% aged 25 to 44 years, 13.1% aged 45 to 64 years, and 5.8% aged 65 years or older. The median age was 23.5 years. For every 100 women, there are 129.0 men. For every 100 women age 18 and over, there are 139.9 men.
The average income for households in the city is $ 42,572. Approximately 14.4% of the population lives below the poverty line.

In the 2000 census, there were 14,764 people, 5,653 households, and 3,855 families living in the city. Population density was 269.3 people per square mile (104.0/km ò). There are 6,952 housing units with an average density of 126.8 per square mile (49.0/km ò). City's racial makeup is 71.0% White, 9.4% African American, 1.5% Native Americans, 3.8% Asian, 10.2% Pacific Island, 6.2% of other races, and 6.4 % of two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race is 14.9% of the population. The Hispanic population has increased 50% since the 2000 census.
There were 5,653 households in which 39.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 49.8% were married couples living together, 13.7% had non-husbands female households, and 31.8% were not family. 25.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 7.4% had someone living alone 65 or older. The average household size was 2.6 and the average family size was 3.1.
In the city, the population is spread by 31.2% under the age of 18, 15.2% from 18 to 24, 28.4% from 25 to 44, 16.7% from 45 to 64, and 8.6% years or more. The median age was 27 years. For every 100 women, there are 101.8 men. For every 100 women age 18 and over, there are 98.7 men.
The average income for households in the city is $ 31,178, and the average income for families is $ 32,251. Men have an average income of $ 25,081 compared to $ 25,141 for women. Geography
It is located in the Mojave Desert in Southern California. It is located on the north side of Joshua Tree National Park and includes one entrance to the park, at Oasis of Mara.

Economy
Oasis of Mara, run by the National Park Service of the United States, is visited by approximately 140,000 people annually; per Indian legend, Oasis is the location of 29 original palm trees planted by Serrano people.

- Copper Mountain College is a community college that caters to Morongo Basin.
- The Morongo Unified School District provides education for public school students.
- Mayfield College offers training programs to prepare active duty service members for careers in the Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (HVAC/R) industries.
