A channel leak test kit is a diagnostic tool designed to measure airtight from air heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) channels. The channel leak test kit consists of a calibrated fan to measure the airflow rate and pressure sensing device to measure the pressure created by the fan flow. The combination of pressure measurement and fan flow is used to determine airtight air ducts. Airtightness of needing ducts is a useful knowledge when trying to improve energy conservation.

Operation

The basal leak testing system includes three components: a calibrated fan, a register sealing system, and a device for measuring fan flow and building pressure. The air supply registers or the air-grill are re-sealed using adhesive tape, cardboard, or non-adhesive reusable seal. A list or return is left open, and a calibrated fan is connected to it. Pressure is monitored in one of the branches of the need for a duct while the calibrated fan sends air into the system. When air is sent to the air passages, pressure builds and forces air out of all openings in various airway connections or through connection and furnace or AC connections. The tighter the drainage system (eg fewer holes), the less air required from the fan to create changes to the drainage pressure.

The leakage test can be done by pressing or pressing the air duct. A work line located outside the building envelope, such as in an unconditioned attic or space, should be pressured to avoid carrying undesirable contaminants such as dust.

Airflow (CFM)

CFM25 is defined as the airflow (in cubic feet per minute) required to make 25 Pascal pressure changes in need of a working channel. CFM25 is one of the most basic measurements of airtight airways. The pressure of 25 Pa is equal to 0.1 inch (0.25 cm) water column.

Leak area

Estimated leak area is a useful way to visualize the equivalent cumulative size of all leaks or holes in need of a work channel. There are various standard calculation methods used to estimate the area of ​​leakage.

Ratings

Commercial and industrial ductwork is often tested for standards developed by the Sheet and Air Conditioning Contractors' Association (SMACNA). Ductwork is temporarily subjected to higher pressure, and then rated or classified than leak estimates.

The above test procedure describes how to determine total leakage, or how many leaks are present for all pipelines connected to the HVAC system. Another test is to leak the outlet. Depending on the home location in the United States, some HVAC systems are actually inside the thermal envelope, some of which are completely outside the thermal envelope, and some are a combination of the two. Energy conservation is enhanced largely by sealing the work channels that are outside the thermal envelope or connected to the outside. With a mixed system, it is possible to determine the amount of leakage outward by simultaneously pressing the housing while pressing the air duct, and measuring the amount of flow required to equalize the pressure.

Chopping the blower door

Another form of leakage of the outlet uses the blower door to measure the total number of house leaks, then close all the registers and restore and measure the leakage again. The next step requires measurement of pressure in the duct system that is released to the building. Manual door blowers will include correction tables to determine correction factors based on pressure in the channel work. To calculate the leakage of the outlet, reduce the leak with registers sealed from the total leakage of the building and multiply by the correction factor.

A third test method for determining whether the airway leaks outwards is by using a pressure pan, which is a register cap with a pressure tap for the hose connection. With a pressurized (or depressurized) housing of up to 50 Pa (-50 Pa) using a blower door, a pressure gauge is attached to a pressure pan using a hose. If the pressure difference is close to zero, this indicates that the work channel associated with a particular register is not connected to the outside. Pressure 5 Pa or above indicates that the channel work is connected to or leaked outwards. A smaller pressure difference indicates greater leakage. This method does not measure channel leakage, but serves to identify the location of the leaking airway workout. This is more than a qualitative measure, used for fault isolation.
