Histori
Towards the end of the 1970s, Syracuse University was under pressure to improve its football facilities to remain the Division I-soccer school. Its small concrete stadium, Archbold Stadium, is 70 years old and does not meet the standards of other schools. The stadium could not be expanded; at the beginning of the decade it has been reduced from 40,000 seats to 26,000 due to a fire code. Therefore, Syracuse University decided to build a new stadium on the Archbold site, which, appropriate for the often cold weather of Syracuse, is to have Teflon coated Fiberglass roofs. While the Dome was built in the 1979 season, Syracuse played "home" in three different locations - Giants Stadium, home of the New York Giants NFL; Rich Stadium (now known as New Era Field), home of the NFL Buffalo Bills; and Schoellkopf Field, home of Cornell Big Red. When it opened in September 1980, it was clear how hard it was inside; that night the famous nickname Dome, "the Loud House", was created. The inflatable roof causes the resulting sound to echo many times, multiplying the loudness produced inside. It will also serve as a home for the men's basketball team, instead of Manley Field House.
Attendance record
Children's basketball at Syracuse University per game and one-season absence is the annual competitor for the top ranking in the country. The Lacrosse crowd is not that big, but the venue allows the Syracuse lacrosse team to play home games throughout the regular season of February-May.
Dome has seen many of the biggest crowds of NCAA basketball. On February 1, 2014, attendance records for the NCAA men's basketball game on campus were broken by several hundred spectators in the Duke vs Syracuse ACC match. Attendance was announced as 35,446, because Syracuse went on to win 91-89, in dramatic fashion in overtime. This victory marks the 21st victory of the season for Orange, breaking the school record for the longest unbeaten streak to start the season. The previous attendance record was set 23 February 2013 (35,012), last game versus Big East Conference rival Georgetown Hoyas, as a member of the Big East. The Orange were beaten 57-46, ending the winning streak of Orange in 38 games. Prior to the attendance record of Georgetown Hoyas, Syracuse University also holds records of previous attendance. On February 27, 2010, an announced presence of 34,616 came to see Orange defeating Villanova Wildcats 95-77. University officials had considered moving the basketball field to the middle of the soccer field for the regular 2014 season game with Duke - a move that could drive a crowd of more than 50,000. It was decided, to appease season ticket holders, that the court would stay at its usual location. However, the university reconfigured the Dome to hold a new record capacity of 35,446.
On March 19, 2007, a new NIT attendance record was set, at 26,752, in a second-round men's basketball game against the Aztec University of San Diego State.
On November 22, 2014, Syracuse Crunch of the American Hockey League set a new record "Hockey American Professional Indoor" by playing in front of 30,715 fans at Carrier Dome for "Toyota Frozen Dome Classic". Syracuse defeated Utica Comet 2-1.
Tournament
The 1981 Big East Conference's basketball tournament was held there, as did Division I Lacrosse Men Division I in 1988 and 1991. NCAA Men's Basketball Eastern Conference Eastern & amp; finals have been held at the Dome seven times (1983, 1997, 2000, 2002, 2005, 2010, and 2015). The NCAA Men's Division I Indoor Track and Field Championships were held there in 1984 and 1985.

Description
Construction and financing
The Carrier Dome was built between April 1979 and September 1980. The total construction cost was $ 26.85 million, including a $ 2.75 million naming prize from Carrier Corporation. Huber, Hunt, and Nichols, Inc. is a general contractor.
It was speculated at the time that political considerations helped the progress of this project. The State of New York granted a $ 15 million grant in 1978 for the construction of the Dome. The incumbent democratic governor, Hugh Carey, is considered to be having trouble in his re-election campaign with voters in the north. He visited the site of the old Archbold stadium and was convinced by local officials and the SU administrators about the usefulness of Dome. Carey won re-election for a second term after state funding approval, though the extent to which it helped may never be known.
Heating and cooling
Although carrying the name Carrier (HVAC manufacturer), there is no air conditioner in the Dome. The need for it is considered low, since the facility is mainly used during the academic year (August-May), for most of the rare outdoor temperatures goes well above room temperature, although it can be very hot in August and September. However, temperatures greatly increased when charged to capacity even in November.
Remodeling and updating
Dome has been improved several times over the last 25 years. Recently the university installed an LED video display system with two video boards (15 'x 25') located at the east end and third level northwest corner, along with 58 color TVs for the second and first rear levels. The inflatable roof was replaced in 1999 at a cost of $ 14 million.
FieldTurf was installed at the start of the 2005 football season, replacing the outdated AstroTurf. In addition, the Dome also received orange paint and banners between the decks, and the corridors were filled with historic photographs.
In May 2018, the university announced a massive renovation to the Dome as part of a larger campus renewal center. The renovation, estimated at $ 118 million, is expected to be completed by 2022. The most significant change is the replacement of the current aerial-backed roof with a fixed roof, two-thirds transparent, and air conditioning installation. The new roof is expected to be ready by 2020, with air conditioning by 2022. The upgrade will also include new scoreboard, lighting and a new sound system, improved Wi-Fi, improved accessibility, better toilets and new concession space. The new roof no longer requires snow removal during the winter, and is expected to have a much lower risk of failure than the current roof. In addition, the new roof will make Dome a more viable place for the main concert; Currently, the need for air locks makes it difficult to move equipment in and out.
Transportation
The Dome is served by the CENTRO bus. The shuttle bus transports the fans to and from the long-haul parking lot.
Dedication
In the 2009 football season a grass court is dedicated to Ernie Davis, winner of the first African Heisman Cup. The fields now read "Ernie Davis Legends Field" between the 45-yard line at the side of the house. No. 44 Davis is also placed along the yard line. Dedication takes place in Syracuse vs. West Virginia game October 10, 2009.
