Mount Snow (formerly known as Mount Pisgah ) is a mountain resort and ski area in southern Vermont located in the Green Mountains. It is the largest volcano nearest Vermont to many of the Northeast metropolitan areas.

This mountain is in the Green Mountain National Forest and operates under a special use permit from the U.S. Forest Service.

The resort is operated by Peak Resorts, which bought it simultaneously with Attitash, in February 2007.

Mount Snow is home to the first All Mountain Mountain Face on the East Coast, Carinthia on Mount Snow, which debuted in the 2008-2009 season. Carinthia is home to nine parks, with natural and man-made features and half a pipe. Mount Snow was the cohost of the first Extreme Games in 1995 and hosted the Winter X-Games in 2000 and 2001. Carinthia on Mount Snow claimed the home for the second stop of the first annual Winter Dew Tour as well as many other shows including Freeski Buka.

In the summer of 2011, Mount Snow installed a removable six-seat Leitner-Poma bubble seat. The new elevator is carrying skiers to the top of the mountain in 7 minutes. The bubble protects skiers and riders from wind and snow and keeps them warm. If it's a warm ski day you can choose to leave the bubbles. Mount Snow now has two high-speed lifts that can be removed from the base to the summit and a total of four removable high-speed lifts.

History

Mount Pisgah is a mountain known to many as the Mountain of Snow and was originally named after the Biblical Mount of Pisgah. A large amount of land on Mount Pisgah was purchased from the Reuben Snow plantation, early in 1953 and on 12 December 1954, the mountain, its name Mount Snow, after the Snow family, was opened to the public. Entrepreneur and dreamer Walt Schoenknecht has a ski resort for many years and leads his development to one of the largest ski areas in the country.

In 1986, the ski area of Carinthia was purchased and connected to the Snow Mount path. Five years later, the nearby Straw Mountain Ski Area was purchased and then marketed as part of Mount Snow. Haystack was sold and closed in 2005.

In 1992, the first snowboard park in the East was established on Mount Snow, named Un Blanco Gulch . The park features leaps, half-pipes, quarter hits, thorns, wedges, turn turns, and buried vans. "The Gulch" remained the staple of the Snowblade freestyle field until the 2008-2009 season when all the terrain parks were moved to the Carinthia area on the mountain where the new park, also named "The Gulch" was erected together with seven additional parks and "Superpipe" collectively called as the Carinthia Park on Mount Snow. In 2000, Mount Snow hosted the 4th Annual Winter X-Games. The match broke the previous attendance record and attracted athletes from around the world. The Olympics return to Mount Snow the following year.

Mount Clark himself, Kelly Clark, bronze medalist from the women's part-time Olympic 2014, won the first American gold medal from the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City with half-pipe women. He is a graduate of the Snow Mountain Academy and the first athlete of Mount Snow to win an Olympic gold medal. Another graduate of Mount Snow Academy, Devin Logan, won the 2014 Winter Olympics silver medal in Sochi in his slopestyle Olympic debut. Eliza Outtrim, who occupies the 6th position in the female mogul, also attended the MSA.

In January 2009, Mount Snow hosted the Winter Tour. This is the first sports action tour for winter sports and is owned and operated by Alli, Alliance of Action Sports. Many top athletes in action sports from around the world participate in the Winter Dew Tour. Athletes like Shaun White, Hannah Teter, Tanner Hall, Andreas Wiig, Gretchen Bleiler, Simon Dumont, Sarah Burke, and Travis Rice all compete for the Dew Cup, awarded at the end of the season.

Mount Snow consists of four separate mountain areas: Main Faces, North Face, Sunbrook, and Carinthia. The Main Faces can be divided into smaller areas named after the main chairs, including Sundance, Ego Alley, Grand Summit, and Canyon. At the base of the Main Face is Launch Pad, a study area adjacent to the main clock tower and ski school. There is also a study area by Sundance Lodge. The North Face, located just north of Main Face, is home to some of Mount Mount's most advanced mountains. Across from the North Face, on the south side of the mountain, is Sunbrook which offers beautiful, nice walks on bluebird days. Carinthia, a completely redesigned mountain face, accessed via Long John and Deer Run, is home to 12 terrain parks that accommodate 125 features including a mini-pipe (10 foot wall) and a Legendary Superpipe that extends 18 feet of wall. The park ranges from experts to beginner level features so there is fun for the whole family.

Main Face

Beginners, intermediaries, and experts alike will find a suitable field on the Main Face of Mount Snow. Most beginner lanes are located on lower mountains, which include the Discovery Shuttle at Launch Pad, as well as the Seasons Double and Tumbleweed Triple chairlift. This is a pure new seat. The Seasons Chair serves Cooper's Junction, a pleasant but short green circle. Lower Tumbleweed service from Long John, Mount Snow marquee trailer trail, and Somerset Road, another easy route. To the right of the Tumbleweed skier is Sweet Sixteen and also the Season Pass that guides skiers through the tunnel to Carinthia. The more difficult terrain can also be accessed, including Short Fuse, super short chute and Frontier, a short but wicked ski section of trees. For the skier left from Tumbleweed is the beginner-oriented Beaver Hill, which empties out in the main base area.

Located further uphill from the Tumbleweed chair is a Sundance Triple, an older triple grip-fixed that runs along the trail of the same name. Sundance is rarely crowded, and the service line is usually empty as well. When running, Sundance chair takes about 10 minutes and does not reach the top. However, most find it provides some of the best middle trails of Mount Snow, all of which can be accessed from the top using Little John as well. The main line is the Shootout and Sundance that run right under the seat. Further along Little John, skiers can access Hop, Ridge, and Uncle, all the nice blue squares that see little use. Ridge, in particular, is a good rolling run, often with lots of snow bags. All this runs a funnel to the bottom of the "Ridge", a medium/broad beginner trail that leads back to the Sundance base. For those who do not want to bother with Sundance or Little John's seats, the South Bowl is an excellent (yet more traveled) blue square that uses Links to connect skiers to Sundance. Tree-skiing, thanks to the excellent 2016 clearance along the south side of the ridge is almost all the way to the Sundance chair but unfortunately these seats are rarely open.

Move north on Main Face, Ego Alley Triple is similar to Triple Sundance in that it is a fixed seat grip that ends short of the summit. It starts in the main base area, so it can be more crowded when open. Not surprisingly, the main route of this elevator is Ego Alley. This is a fun middle ground with good pitch, perfect for skiers who want to show off a certain skill and get an ego boost, that's the name. However, Ego Alley, along with Charlie's Chase, is sometimes the trail used by the racing team, who set the gates to practice. At the end of Ego Alley is Yard Sale, a very short and not very hard black diamond that is often violated. After that is Beaver Tail, a more tamer run at the foot of the mountain. The most challenging field in the Ego Alley section is Sap Tapper, a very tight ski area, but like the rest, it's rarely open.

Walking parallel to Ego Alley, two chairlift walk from base to top. They are both 7 minutes up to the top. Bluebird Express which is a high-speed six pack bubble seat operates every day. The Grand Summit Express is a high speed quad and operates on most weekends and holidays. On a busy weekend, the Grand Summit express is the quietest of the two lifts although they take the same amount of time so this lift is definitely recommended on top of the bubble. For many skiers, this trip to the summit is about one of the most beloved paths of Snowy Mountain beginners: Little John and Long John. With the exception of short lift Sundance traffic, both runs do not have higher trail dumps rates, making them the perfect beginner highway. Long John has one alternative route, a short middle trace called Cut Off, because it cuts off one of Long John's corners. The rest of the way from the top is all the top of the Main Face line. These include, Upper Exhibition, Upper Lodge, Upper Ledge, Upper Choke, and Cascade. The Top Exhibition runs under the Grand Summit Express, and has a comfortable long section. The lower part often gets moguls. The skier can turn right onto the Tramline to connect to the Ego Alley area. Upper Lodge and Cascade is probably the easiest of the "top" and see most of the makeup. Both have very short steep sections. Upper Ledge, a rarely styled black diamond, is one of the most interesting traces of Main Face. Traces remain as the name implies, because there is a steep edge that keeps the skier alert.

facing north

The North Face is part of a mountain designed for skiers and a more advanced snowboard. The entire face is made up of black diamond trails, with some exceptions, such as River Run, the connecting lane that leads to the elevator. The lifts are Outpost and Challenger. The North Face of Snow Mountain is best known, however, for the double black diamond trail, Ripcord. Ripcord is the steepest and most difficult trail on the mountain, with a large mogul. The North Face also has many tree ski areas, such as The Plunge, Epiphany, and The Trials. The Plunge is located right next to Ripcord and is known for its steepness, bushy trees, and narrow cliffs at the end of the path leading up to the Ripcord. The ripcord is accessed by a committed, medium blue rectangle with a mogul that empties into Cascade, the nearest main face running into Ripcord.

Carinthia on Mount Snow

Newly redesigned for the 2008-2009 season, Mount Snow opens Carinthia. Home to 12 parks, over 125 features and half pipe and superpipe with 18 foot wall. After the renovation of the base cottage of Carinthia includes a new lounge and The Vault, a free-style ski and snowboard shop located in the basement, Carinthia offers the face of the first mountain and the only park on the East Coast. Claiming the host on the second stop of the 1st Annual Winter Dew Tour, Redbull Buttercup Finals and FreeSki Open coming March 20-22, the new park system has really received praise from this season for its exceptional conditions and adaptability for this the name of the tour is great. Whether you are a beginner or a Pro rider or skier, there is something for everyone in Carinthia.
