Engineering method is a sub-specialization of industrial engineering and manufacturing techniques related to human integration in industrial production processes.

Overview

The alternative can be described as the design of a productive process in which a person is involved. The task of the Method engineers is to decide where humans will be used in the process of converting raw materials into finished products and how workers can perform tasks assigned effectively. The terms of operation analysis, work design and simplification, and method engineering and corporate reengineering are often used interchangeably.

Lowering costs and improving reliability and productivity is the goal of engineering methods. These objectives are met in the following five steps: Project selection, data acquisition and presentation, data analysis, development of an ideal method based on data analysis and, finally, presentation and implementation of methods.

Topic engineering methods

Project selection

Engineer methods usually work on projects that involve new product designs, products with high production costs for profit ratios, and products related to poor quality issues. Different project selection methods include Pareto analysis, fish diagrams, Gantt charts, PERT charts, and workplace/workplace analytics guides.

Acquisition and presentation of data

The data that needs to be collected is a specification sheet for the product, the design drawing, the quantity and delivery requirements, and projections of how the product will perform or have been performed in the market. Gantt process chart can assist in the analysis of human interaction to the machine and can assist in determining the optimal number of workers and machines according to financial constraints of operations. Flowcharts are often used to represent manufacturing processes related to a product.

Data analysis

The data analysis allows the method engineers to make decisions about a number of things, including: operating goals, design part characteristics, specifications and tolerances of parts, materials, manufacturing process design, arrangements and tools, working conditions, material handling, plant layout, work. Knowing the specifics (who, what, when, where, why, and how) product manufacturing helps in the development of optimal manufacturing methods.

Development of the ideal method

The sync and random service equations and line balancing are used to determine the ideal worker's ratio to the machine for the selected process or product. A synchronous service is defined as the process by which a machine is assigned to more than one operator, and the assigned operator and machine are occupied during the entire operating cycle. The facility's random service, as its name implies, is defined as a service process with random time occurrence and variable service needs. The line balancing equation determines the ideal number of workers required on the production line to enable it to work at capacity.

Presentation and implementation methods

Process or industrial operations can be optimized using various methods available. Each design method has advantages and disadvantages. The best overall method is selected using selection criteria and concepts involving value engineering, cost-benefit analysis, crossover charts, and economic analysis. The results of the selection process are then presented to the company to be implemented at the factory. This last step involves "selling ideas" to a brass firm, a skill that should be developed by the method engineer in addition to the normal engineering qualifications.
