Line 1 , also known as Metro North-South of Kolkata Metro is a fast transit system serving Kolkata, 24 Southern Parganas and 24 North Parganas in the Indian state of West Bengal. It consists of 23 stations from Kavi Subhash to Dum Dum, 6 of which are elevated, 2 are in class and 15 underground, with a total distance of 25.30 km. This line connects Dum Dum and New Garia and uses 5Ã, ftÃ, 6Ã, in ( 1.676Ã, Â ° ) The size of the rolling stock area. Noapara opened on July 10, 2013. It is elevated and located 2.09 km. north of Dum Dum. So now (July 2013 onwards) Metro runs a total of 27.39 Kilometers from Noapara to Kavi Subhash where there are a total of 24 nos. from the Station. This is the first subway built in India, with the first operation commencing in October, 1984 and the full stretch originally planned to start operating in February 1995. On December 28, 2010, it became the 17th zone of the Indian Railway. As the first country in Indonesia, and a wholly indigenous process, the construction of Metro Kolkata is more of a trial-and-error affair, in contrast to Metro Delhi, which has seen the involvement of many international consultants. As a result, it took almost 23 years to build about 15 km subway from Birpara until before Tollygunj Metro Station.

History

The founding stone laying was done in 1972, but the actual construction of line 1 started only in 1978. Line 1 is 17 km. length with 17 stations (see above). Running the first metro car on the line by 1984 was considered a major engineering challenge. The train minister, A. B. A. Ghani Khan Chowdhury took a great effort to do that. The first section opens between Esplanade & amp; Bhowanipore (now called Netaji Bhawan). The first day of Kolkata Metro Railway was started by Sri Tapan Kumar Nath and Sri Sanjay Sil. No this stretch connection with two depots in Dum Dum & amp; Tollygunge (Now called Mahanayak Uttam Kumar). So a metro car should be laid on a track near the Esplanade by a crane, by directly digging the road surface. Initially, only four car trains were run until 1986. There was no magnetic gate or escalator at the time and the ordinary gate serves as the exit. Metro is also operated with just one line. Two years later, line 1 was extended to Tollygunge, at the southern end. At the same time, the metro service is extended to multiple lines. Tickets of magnets and more entrance gates were also introduced at the time. The number of compartments in each train increased to eight.

The metro service also starts from Dum Dum, at the northern end, to Belgachhia in parallel with the extension of the path to the south. But this short section is unpopular and the service is closed to restart when the entire path along the north-south corridor is complete.

After 1986 many political incidents hampered construction, and work almost stopped for nearly six years. After resuming work, Dum Dum's metro service to Shyambazar began in 1994. This section is served by four car trains. Two months later, the Esplanade - Chandni Chowk section opened, and Chandni Chowk - Central section opened three months later. The service from Dum Dum to Tollygunge began in 1995, with Jalan Mahatma Gandhi, which opened in 1996. During that time, more gates and magnetic escalators were added and the rotating gates were slowly removed.

Expands to the Metro Station Kavi Subhash (New Garia)

Mamata Banerjee during his first term as rail minister started the Tollygunj - Garia metro expansion project. During his second term (2009-2011) he inaugurated the extension, and also introduced a new AC device, locally produced at Integral Coach Factory, in Perambur, near Chennai.

The new extension to Garia Bazar in the south opened to the public on August 23, 2009. Garia Bazar Station is named after Kavi Nazrul. The final extension of Kavi Nazrul (Garia Bazar) to Kavi Subhash (Garia Baru) was inaugurated on October 7, 2010, bringing the number of stations to 23. On the same day, two air-conditioned tunnels were also forced.

Future extensions

The plan to extend Line 1 in the north from Dumdum to Dakshineswar (5.2 km) is being executed. The construction of this stretch began in February 2010. It will be met by metro lines from Barrackpore in Baranagar (12.5 km).

The stations on this stretch are:

  1. Dumdum
  2. Ma Sarada Devi (Noapara)
  3. Swami Vivekananda (Baranagar)

Features

Technical features

The construction of the metro is a highly complex nature requiring the adoption of several new technologies in the fields of civil engineering, electrical, signal and telecommunications. Indian engineers are backed by their own experience and equipped with their study abroad, adopting advanced technology in the following fields for the first time in India.

  • Method of cutting and closing construction using diaphragm wall and pile of sheets.
  • Extensive use of decking to keep traffic flowing over pieces while construction is underway.
  • Shield tunneling using compressed air and airlocks.
  • Balast less track with elastic fasteners, rubber pads, epoxy mortar and nylon inserts.
  • AC system and ventilation for station and tunnel environment control.
  • The Third Rail flow collection system for attraction.
  • Substation underground with dry type transformer and SF circuit breaker 6 .
  • VHF train-carriage radio communications system.
  • Control of micro-based trains and remote control system supervisors for substations.
  • Automatic ticket checking and checking system.

Prominent features

Rolling stock

The entire fleet was saved. Carbondi and mechanical components are made by ICF Chennai with electrical components made by NGEF, Bangalore. This fleet is unique in that it is the only train equipment in India with cabin doors mounted at the end (except for some WAG-6 series locomotives).

ICF has specifically designed, produced and supplied these cars to Kolkata Metro Underground System. Specific features included are:

  • Traction power supply through third-rail collecting system.
  • Automatic door opening/closing and ongoing transit monitoring.
  • Automatic Train Stop (ATS) system that will automatically activate the brakes in case of human failure.
  • Automatic train operation (ATO) with driver acting as train supervisor (optional).
  • The public address system is provided on the train to announce the approaching station. The central officer can contact one of the train crew and also make important announcements directly to passengers through the system.

With all these features, the design and manufacturing process of these cars with exceptionally high standards of reliability and safety has been a challenge. This is achieved without technical collaboration. The entire fleet is capable of carrying 2,356 passengers.

Starting in October 2010, the gradual phase-breaking process of the rolling stock class is currently being started and replaced by 13 new air-conditioned cars that have been forced. Of the total 18 trainsets (non AC) owned by Kolkata Metro, 11 should be retired within a few years and the remaining seven will be rebuilt with new features including air conditioning, which is urgently needed.

The 13 states of AC art rakes have the following features: -

  • The microprocessor controls the temperature and humidity controls inside the carriage.
  • Full automatic and digital rail operations include emergency braking in case of human or emergency failure.
  • LCD screen inside motormen cabin.
  • External and internal noise levels are low.
  • The maximum speed of 80 km/h and the Avge speed is 55 km/h.
  • LED Multimedia electronic board board both inside and outside the carriage.
  • Public address system.
  • Multi Reflector Head Light.
  • LED-based tail light.
  • The third rail system of the current collection.
  • Continuous monitoring of transit.

The new air-conditioned rolling stock is produced by ICF in cooperation with BHEL and Knorr Bremse, Germany.

Reservation for women

In 2008, the Kolkata Metro Railway experimented with the practice of reserving two full compartments for women.

The system was found ineffective and caused inconvenience for many commuters (including women) and the plan was eventually canceled by the metro authorities. But certain parts of the chairs in each of the eight compartments are reserved for women.

Tokens

The previous magnetic ticketing ticket system has been removed and the token is in place since July 2011. The system requires a touch-free gate that works through radio frequency identification rather than the old magnetic stripe reader. The Railway Information System Center, which has implemented the Rs 415 million project, awarded contracts to Spanish companies last year after the global bidding process.

Token system feature

  1. Tokens are being reused, thereby saving paper which also reduces the possibility of damage that occurs on tickets that are pasted on paper.
  2. The number of passengers can be entered in 30 seconds. This will ensure smooth delivery of commuters.
  3. This will also help improve security in the sense that previously many people used to travel without tickets.

Smart card

The smart card was also introduced a month later after the introduction of the token system. The advantage of using a smart card is the flexibility that allows passengers every day to travel to any zone without worrying about taking tokens from the right zone. Another advantage offered through regular tokens is the reduced cost of effective travel. A fully refundable guarantee deposit of Rs 100 must be made to get this smart card. The current deposit is Rs 60.

Issues with Channel 1

Coach produced by ICF without Indian Railways signaling was adopted as a substitute for European signals.

Delhi Metro founder E. Sreedharan said Indian Railways is not an expert on urban transport, and incorrectly plotted Kolkata metro from scratch. Private companies have to run the metro and can bring it up to standard within five years.

All new Metro Kolkata lines, starting with Line 2, will be operated by Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (KMRC).
