First generation (1996-2008)
The car was introduced on September 11, 1996 as a small and inexpensive addition to the Ford range. It's based on the Ford Fiesta Mark IV platform, but with an entirely different exterior design. The design was borrowed heavily from the "Saetta" Ghia, a roadster designed by Filippo Sapino. Ka evolved from concept vehicle to production with small changes. Bumper and large wheel arches, one piece, are shaped to make the vehicle more durable and easier to repair. The vehicle is manufactured in Fiesta's existing production line at Almussafes, Valencia, minimizing the investment cost of the new model. Chief Program Engineer is Kevin O'Neill. The designer of the car is Chris Svensson of Sunderland, who has designed a similar-shaped car when at the Royal College of Art in 1992.
When Ka was first introduced to the public, it provoked mixed reactions, due to the original and striking New Edge design, supervised by Jack Telnack and executed by Claude Lobo.
In addition to styling, Ka, like his brother's car Fiesta and Puma; praised in the automotive press for handling. Under the supervision of Richard Parry-Jones, suspension and steering arrangements allow for hard cornering and high grip levels, providing powerful handling characteristics.
At launch, Ka is manufactured as a single model, with a number of production options including: air conditioning, power steering, adjustable height seats, adjustable rear seat positions with headrests, passenger airbags, central locks and power windows. Option of anti-lock braking system was added in January 1997.
In addition to corrosion, the main drawback is the Endura-E engine with a capacity of 1200 cc OHV four-cylinder, a design that comes from the 1950s Kent machine used in Ford Anglia. Although not very modern, it provides enough torque to allow for a leisurely or leisurely ride. In 2002, Endura-E was replaced by a Duratec overhead cam machine, with claims of improved fuel efficiency and improved refinement, largely due to higher gearing on non-AC models.
During the first three years of production, all models have a black plastic bumper to minimize parking damage to painting in city environments. These bumpers contain stabilizers to prevent UV degradation which makes them unsuitable for painting because the paint will not stick properly. However, it became clear that many owners wanted bumper-colored bodies, so they were introduced in 1999 using different bumper prints (without stabilizers).
Ka has proved very profitable for Ford despite its low sales price, largely due to low development costs. In 2006, Ford sold 17,000 examples of Ka models per year in the UK. Like other Ford models, inadequate anti-corrosion care during the manufacture and use of unvayable steel products on premature surfaces and structural corrosion formed on cars used in more northern and humid climates.
In Australia, Ka was introduced in October 1999 and was on the market there until 2002. It did not work - less than 2,000 sold per year. This is partly due to the lack of automatic transmission, which is preferred by most Australian car buyers. Ka was also sold in New Zealand between 1999-2004, and was replaced by the newer Fiesta.
United Kingdom
Ka has been the best-selling car in his class in the United Kingdom for several years and has controlled about a fifth of the city's car market. The British model range originally comprises the basic version, Ka, and Ka'² higher specifications that standardize a number of options listed above. Badges KaÃ,² installed by the dealer. Kaó³ was introduced later. Power steering is added to the basic Ka specification after the first year.
Along with the introduction of the body bumpers Ka ² and Ka³ are replaced by Ka Collection and LuxuryKa (then Ka Luxury).
The Luxury version comes with heated Quickclear windshield, leather upholstery and interior trim as well as standard air conditioners. The special edition "Ka Blue" is also launched in the UK with a dark blue bumper and silver dashboard inserts instead of standard silver models. The Ka Sun Collection with full-length roofing fabric is also added to the range during the summer months.
Unique to the UK is the Ford Ka Van variant, produced exclusively for BT Group and featuring a bespoke flatwood floor with over-mat rubber and white ply cover instead of the rear window.
A further line-up revision gave Ka the following slim level in the UK: Studio, Style, Climate Style and Climate Zetec. In 2005, the noble model was introduced. It features a special & amp; features not found in other models. It's only produced in very small quantities and is now one of the most sought after Ka. SportKa is also added to the range (see below). With an upcoming car replacement, in May 2008 a special edition of Finale with distinguishing features such as roof stickers and black wing mirrors made available.
StreetKa and SportKa
In 2003, the Ka brand was diversified, with the addition of a new SportKa featuring a sporty body kit, wider tracks with rigid suspension and 16 "(40 cm) alloy wheels. The two models come with a slightly wide front and rear bumper with integral lights mist A convertible model called StreetKa also appeared, launched with the help of singer Kylie Minogue at the Paris Motor Show, featuring a removable soft folding manual or optional hardtop (in Winter Edition).
StreetKa is a Ford inhouse design built by Pininfarina (2000 motor show concept designed by Ghia, Turin) in Italy and all StreetKas have threshold plates inscribed with "Pininfarina". Pininfarina produced 37,076 StreetKas between 2002-2005. StreetKa comes in two levels of equipment, basic and luxurious. The grounds have a cloth chair and air conditioning is a great choice. Luxurious leather upholstery with matching leather door card insertion, heated seats, approved Thatcham alarm along with PATS Ford immobilis, air conditioning, and heated door mirrors. Options include single CD/radio upgrades to 6-disc in-dash CD/radios and additional rear speakers under roll over bars and heated windshield, standard on winter models. All models feature remote central locking locks with remote boot release, driver and passenger airbags with passenger air disabling, electric windows and door mirrors, electric headlight adjustment targets, anti-lock brakes, power steering, front fog lamps, racing Puma aluminum gear knob, electric cover hood cover and lap counters. The machine used in StreetKa (and SportKa) is called Duratec but originated from South Africa where it is known as Zetec Rocam. StreetKa features front and rear MacPherson struts and uses a wider new front arm (wishbones) providing exceptional handling. The only exterior panel that is shared with Ka is the bonnet. The headlights are also shared with Ka but look different because the front bumper that covers them partly to change its shape. Most interior parts with Ka except StreetKa have facia painted blue rather than silver. The chairs are mounted lower than Ka and have details of the effects of aluminum.
In 2005, all Ka models including SportKa and StreetKa received slightly updated interiors, bringing the cabin back updated, while retaining its original look and feel. Both StreetKa and SportKa receive a new 1.6-liter Duratec 93-hp (69-kW) gasoline engine, while Ka, Ka Collection, and LuxuryKa maintain Duratec 1.3 liter petrol engines. SportKa is famous for his stunning advertising campaign, "The Ka's Evil Twin", denouncing Ka's traditional "cute" design. StreetKa stopped officially sold in late 2006.
The pink version was produced to promote the new Thunderbirds movies, and supplied by Ford to the film producer. The Thunderbird movie car was unveiled at the Birmingham Motor Show. Only eight Pink StreetKas are produced by Ford for movies, 5 RHD and 3 LHD. All signed by Sophia Myles (Miss Lady Penelope). A suitable StreetKa dress designed by Bruce Oldfield of Ford is then sold at auction during London Fashion Week to raise money for Barnados.
Motorsport
A Ford KA rally championship was created in 1998. It has proven to be one of the most popular junior rally championships (Ford Ka Rally Cup) in England and Ireland. In 2007, Luke Pinder won the BRC Silverstone Tire 1400 Championship in Chris Birkbeck Ford KA.
Ka Rally Car
Built by Ford Motorsport (Ford TeamRS) working in Boreham, Essex, The Rally Ka is designed as an entry-level vehicle to compete in the one-make series as part of the British Mintex rally championship. The Ka Championship in 1997 with only four cars in the Granite City Rally event. In 1998, fifteen competitors did the Mintex challenge. Ford Boreham airfield facilities provide a complete build service for competitors who want to raise Ka. Most of the parts supplied are related to the strengthening of the car for the rally. Engine mounted seats and suspension bushes are all included, such as the front strut support. Fuel tankers and aluminum fuel tanks, OZ Rally wheels, and Safety Devices in roll cage are all installed by Boreham working or supplied to each team. Modifications that improve performance are limited to the addition of a speculative engine control unit Rally, camshaft and 4-to-2-to-1 set of extractors attached to a free-flowing exhaust. This combination lifts up to 80 hp (60 kW), and to cope, competitors are encouraged to customize an optional upright drive shaft with larger CV connections. Limited slip differentials and heavier clutch plates are also available. Competition brake packs consisting of Mintex pads that unplug the front brake rotor and the stronger rear drum are homologate to Rally Ka. Replacing the original shock absorber is a set of four long-distance Proflex coil-over reservoir rods that can be adjusted for compression and rebound damping. It's allied with a downgrade kit and an adjustable spring platform to give Ka competitors a variety of suspension settings including high rises. Inside Rally Ka is a business. In true rally mode, everything is important: two central eyeball vents are replaced with a tachometer and additional tools. Even replacement panels on the dashboard that support the fire extinguishers and additional switches and gauges required in rally cars are listed in the Boreham tribes schedule. A rally steering wheel, competition chair and armor are all provided from the kit and no replacement is allowed. Second generation (2008-2014) Second generation >
In 2008, Ka Europe was replaced with a model developed and manufactured for Ford by Fiat S.p.A along with 500 vehicles belonging to Fiat. This car is built in Tychy, Poland, Fiat factory in addition to Fiat 500, Fiat Panda and Lancia Ypsilon.
Despite the entirely different architecture underneath, the new Ka retains the curved styling features of the original, while carrying the look according to the Ford Kinetic Design philosophy. It maintains the wheel position in every corner of the previous model. Ford promises a cabin that features 'expressive colors'. This largely refers to the multichoice interior styling provided for the second time at Ford, right after the success of the Fiesta interior design. In addition, the interior can be equipped with accessories such as Bluetooth phone connection, wireless voice control, USB port, Radio CD, MP3, AUX connector, steering audio control and speaker system consisting of six speakers, subwoofer and an amplifier.
New Ka comes with a choice of two engines, 1.2 liter petrol with power 69 PS (51 kW) and torque 102? N? M (75 lbf? Ft) and a 1.3-liter TDCi diesel engine with 75 PS (55Ã, kW; 74Ã, hp) of power and 1454 torque, N? M (107Ã, lb? Ft). Both engines come with sub-120Ã em, g/km CO 2 (119 for gasoline and 112 for diesel). Both engines are supplied from Fiat.
The main mechanical differentiator between the new Ka and its Fiat brothers is that Ford has a better absorption of shock than the Fiat 500. The mounting of the rear anti-roll bar allows 30 percent softer springs and retained damper to improve ride performance over road surface uneven. Some of these improvements were later adopted on the Fiat 500 Abarth and Fiat 500C models. The change was also made on the steering geometry of 500 for Ka, although since Ka had just used an electrically driven steering system, he had no communication with his predecessor hydraulic driving rudder. However, the electric steering system makes the steering wheel much lighter and more energy efficient than its predecessor.
The new Ka has an overall Euro NCAP security rating of 4 stars, with standard drivers and single-stage stair front passengers, ABS, immobilizer, hazard warning lights and remote central locking (except UK Studio versions). In addition, there are front side airbags and curtain airbags and ESP (Electronic Stability Program) with HBA (Hydraulic Brake Assist) and HLA (Hill Launch Assist) which come with additional cost.
Ka just debuted in the 22nd James Bond movie Quantum of Solace and was unveiled at the October 2008 Paris Motor Show.
In 2008, there was some speculation that Ka might be introduced to the North American market. It has since been confirmed that Ford considers Ka too small for American tastes and will not introduce vehicles to this market.
Ka Individual
There are also three "Ford Individual packages" with their own special characteristics (both in interior and exterior design), called Tattoo, Grand Prix and Digital. Tattoo was replaced in 2011 by Metal. All Individual models are based on Zetec.
Third generation (2014-present)
Developed by Ford Brazil, the Ford Ka Concept was unveiled in Brazil in November 2013. The new production version of the Ford Ka appears in July 2014, in hatchback and sedan style, with the first units arriving in Brazil in September and October 2014 respectively.. The next market in which it was launched was India, where the sedan made its debut as the new Ford Figo Aspire in August 2015, with the hatchback arriving (as the new Ford Figo) a month later. Launched in Europe (as Ka) in June 2016, with deliveries starting later that year. The '' in the name shows the fact how Ford sees this as a B-segment budget car (like MG 3 or Dacia Sandero), rather than a segment A car (like Volkswagen Up or Hyundai i10).
The new model is based on Ford B's global platform, sharing its foundation with the Fiesta supermini, and embodies the design theme of Ford's Kinetic 2.0. The hatchback is a five-door model only and now 266 mm (10.5 inches) longer than the previous model, with the wheelbase increasing by 190 mm (7.5 inches). The four-door sedan has the same wheelbase as the hatchback, but two longer variants: the longer in Brazil (dubbed Ka), 4.254 mm (167.5 inches) in size, and the shorter one exclusively in India (called the Aspire), 3.995 mm (157.3 inches).
In Brazil, offered with a choice of two gasoline engines: a 1.0-liter three-cylinder engine, developing 59 kW (80 PS) and 100Ã, N? M (74 lb ft), or 1.5 liters four cylinders, developed 77Ã,WW (105Ã, PS) and 143Ã,N? m (105Ã, lb? ft). In India, this range consists of a 1.2-liter four-cylinder gasoline, which develops 65 kW (88 PS) and 112 N 'm (83 lb? Ft), 1.5 liter four-cylinder diesel, develops 74 kW (100 PS) and 215Ã, N? M (159Ã, lb? Ft), or four-cylinder four-cylinder gasoline, developed 82 k kW (112 PS) and 136 N N m m (100 lb ft. Ft). The latter is paired with a six-speed Ford PowerShift transmission, while the remaining five-speed manual options are available. In Europe, Ka comes with just one engine, a 1.2 liter unit, equipped with 51 kW (70 PS), in Studio or Zetec trim levels, or 63 kW (85 PS), exclusively in the Zetec Model.
It features equipment such as Ford MyKey, MyDock and SYNC systems, steering-mounted controls, automatic climate control, power-fold mirrors, keyless entry, electronic stability control, cruise control (in Europe), up to six airbags and high-strength steel. body structure.
In November 2015, Ka's model with two standard front airbags and a standard ABS with EBD was tested by Latin NCAP and was awarded four stars out of five. It was considered that in the frontal impacts the driver and chest head received adequate protection, the heads of passengers and chest received good protection, while the driver's and passenger's knee areas received marginal protection. Bodyshell is rated stable and able to withstand further loads.
In March 2017, Euro NCAP released the results of tests conducted on Ka and scored three out of five stars. For adult residents received a 73% rating, for children who ranked 61%, for pedestrians ranked 57% and for the security assistance category ranked 29%. The performance of the car in the test is rated as "mediocre", criticized for lack of rear seatbelt and load-restrict pretensioner, poor chest protection in wide-frontal collision test and lack of autonomous braking technology.
It was then launched in Mexico in September 2015, and in South Africa one month later. In March 2016, it was also introduced in Argentina.
The new Ka is manufactured at the Ford plant in CamaÃÆ'§ari, Brazil (from which it is exported to Argentina) and in Sanand, Gujarat, India (from which it is exported to Mexico, South Africa and Europe).
Marketing in America
Over the years Ka Latin America has become increasingly different from Ka Europe. The first deviation occurred in 2003, when the back of Latin America made Ka significantly redesigned. This was followed by a more complete distinction from Ka Europe in 2007, when Latin America made Ka relaunched with a completely new body on the original platform. With the launch of the second generation Ka Ka, with the new body and the new Fiat platform, the separation of Cash Europe and Latin America is over. Now their cars are completely different.
From 2000 to the present, Latin American Ka has been powered by a 1.6 liter 92-hp Zerec Rocam petrol engine (70-kW; 95Ã, PS) or 64Ã, hp (48Ã, kW, 65Ã, PS) Zetec Rocam 1.0-liter engine fuel. Both are four-cylinder units.
A total of 63,766 units were sold in Brazil in 2011, making it the 14th most sold car in Brazil that year.
South America
1997-2001
From the 1997 launch, and until 2001, Latin American Ka was substantially similar to Ka Europe, differing only in equipment and trim levels. The main difference from the European model is the very short gearing for the manual gearbox (the only transmission available) and the lack of soundproofing, which has been gradually removed every year since 2000 as a way to reduce costs, following other Brazilian practices. the automaker at the time.
2001-2007
In 2001, Latin American Ka received a facelift that made it slightly different, externally, with a European model. The most striking difference is at the rear, where the license plate is moved from the bumper to the trunk lid (luggage), and the taillights are made much higher.
2008-2014
Ford presented the new Brazilian Ka on December 14, 2007. Sales began in Brazil on January 2, 2008. The car was exported to other markets in Latin America. Compared to the original Ka, this model has a longer rear overhangs and a redesigned rear seat to accommodate the fifth passenger. With a length of 3835 mmm, it now fits in a subcompact car class. In 2011, Ford presents a facelift version after following the Kinect car concept. In Brazil, only the Sport version offers a 1.6 liter engine.
In 2008, with the launch of a new European Ka based on the Fiat platform, Ka's two lanes eventually became completely separate.
2014-present
The new Ka Ford was introduced in 2014 SÃÆ'Â Â £ Paulo Motor Show, became available on the market in August of that year and presented at 2015 Buenos Aires Motor Show. The Ford Ka adopted the "Kinetic" design, presenting a more aggressive style and slightly larger than the previous model, adopting a 5-door body, occupying the former Ford Ka location and Ford Fiesta One.
In addition to adding a new variant of the 4-door sedan body, called Ka. The new Ford Ka offers two engines: 1.0 liter, 3-cylinder in-line, 12-valve with TiVCT technology (generating up to 85 HP advertised) and 1.5-liter in-line 4-cylinder 16-valve shown in a more basic version of Fiesta (generating up to 110 HP advertised); The gearbox options are limited to the famous 5-speed IB5 for both the 1000cc and 1500cc variants.
According to the local press, the newest 1.04, L 2014 Ka version is the most economical compact car with no turbocharged engine (the title will be helped by VW up! 1.0Ã, L TSI), reaching up to 12 kilometers inside the city of SÃÆ'Â £ Paulo only by one liter E100 (ethanol fuel). E33 fuel (standard gasoline specifications of Brazil) economic facts have not been published yet, although the owner claims it is about 1 km/L to 2.5 km/L more than with E100.
The 1.5-L-equipped Sigma version has been well received by the Brazilian market due to its relatively strong launch and good torque in low and mid-range revs.
Mexico
In January 2008, it was announced that a new Brazilian Ka would not be offered in the Mexican market. This means it is officially terminated.
In 2015, the third generation Ka Brazil was introduced as Ford Figo.
Controversy
In 2006, two ads advertise Ford SportKa in the UK proved controversial when they received complaints over their content. The first advertisement included a pigeon who was beaten and killed by a car hood while flying near the car. The second ad saw SportKa open its sunroof to let the cat's head in. Sunroof then closes and decapitates the cat. After many complaints, these ads are removed from the air and are no longer displayed.
