In Europe, seasonal efficiency of refrigeration, air conditioning and air conditioning equipment is often assessed by the European seasonal energy efficiency ratio (ESEER) as determined by the Eurovent Certification Company. A similar standard in the United States is the ratio of integrated energy efficiency (IEER).

UK Building Regulations Part L SEER

In the UK, Season's Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER) for refrigeration and air conditioning products, similar to ESEER but with different weighted load profile factors, is used for part of the Building Regulations of Calculation L in the Simplified Building Energy Model (SBEM) software, and used in the production of Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) for new buildings in the UK and the EU; either as part of the European directives on building energy performance (EPBD).

The formula for SIER can be presented as follows:

SEER = a (EER @ 25% load) b (EER @ 50% load) c (EER @ load 75%) d (EER @ 100% load)

where a, b, c, & amp; d is the weighting factor of the load profile relevant to the proposed application.
