In Europe, seasonal efficiency of refrigeration, air conditioning and air conditioning equipment is often assessed by the European seasonal energy efficiency ratio (ESEER) as determined by the Eurovent Certification Company. A similar standard in the United States is the ratio of integrated energy efficiency (IEER).

ESEER is calculated by combining the full and partial operating efficiency ratios (EER), for various seasonal temperatures or water, and is included for the appropriate weighting factor. These values â€‹â€‹are shown in the following table.

The formula for ESEER can then be presented as follows:

Eurovent issues the EER and ESEER values â€‹â€‹in the Certified Products Directory along with cooling capacity and power input for standard conditions at full load for a wide range of commercially available equipment.

UK Building Regulations Part L SEER

In the UK, Season's Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER) for refrigeration and air conditioning products, similar to ESEER but with different weighted load profile factors, is used for part of the Building Regulations of Calculation L in the Simplified Building Energy Model (SBEM) software, and used in the production of Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) for new buildings in the UK and the EU; either as part of the European directives on building energy performance (EPBD).

The formula for SIER can be presented as follows:

SEER = a (EER @ 25% load) b (EER @ 50% load) c (EER @ load 75%) d (EER @ 100% load)

where a, b, c, & amp; d is the weighting factor of the load profile relevant to the proposed application.
